Training track — non-technical teams

AI Foundations

Confident, safe daily use of AI assistants and agentic desktop tools in ordinary office work. Taught by an engineer who builds with these tools in regulated environments.

Who it suits

  • Operations, finance, HR, marketing, legal and administrative teams
  • Managers who need their department to use AI tools consistently rather than ad hoc
  • Organisations that must show their use of AI is controlled and documented

Prerequisites

  • No technical background required
  • Comfortable with everyday office software: documents, spreadsheets, email
  • Access to whichever AI assistant your organisation already licences

Session-by-session outline

  1. Session 1 — What these tools actually do

How AI assistants produce text, why they sound certain when they are wrong, and what that means for work that carries your company's name.

  2. Session 2 — Instructions that produce reliable output

Writing instructions that produce reliable rather than plausible output: context, examples, constraints, and asking for the working rather than just the answer.

  3. Session 3 — Drafting, summarising, research and analysis

Applied work on the team's own tasks: briefing notes, meeting summaries, document review, first-pass analysis of data and reports.

  4. Session 4 — Recognising fabrication and verifying output

How fabricated facts, figures, quotations and sources appear, and a practical verification routine to apply before output reaches a client or a decision.

  5. Session 5 — Data, confidentiality and UK GDPR

What company and personal data can safely go into these tools, what must never be pasted into a chat window, and how to record use where that is expected of you.

  6. Session 6 — Agentic desktop tools

Moving beyond chat to tools that work across files, folders and documents: where they save real time and where supervision is required.

  7. Session 7 — Mapping your own role

Each participant identifies which tasks in their role suit AI, which do not, and agrees team conventions to take away.

Typical duration

Two days on-site, or four half-day remote sessions. A one-day condensed version is available for smaller teams.

What participants can do afterwards

  • Use AI assistants effectively for drafting, summarising, research and analysis
  • Understand what these tools genuinely do well and where they fail
  • Write instructions that produce reliable rather than plausible output
  • Recognise fabricated information and verify before it reaches a client or a decision
  • Handle company and personal data safely under UK GDPR, and know what must never be pasted into a chat window
  • Use agentic tools that work across files and documents rather than only chatting
  • Identify which tasks in their own role suit AI and which do not
